Todays workout: Interval/sprints workout. Always a good time, when people are the on tread next to you and think you're a heavy footed freak who keeps changing speeds for no reason!
Today's intervals: 2 sets of 4x400m with 1:30 in between each interval with 2:30 between the sets. With the length of sprints we've been doing, i thought 400m (which is a quarter mile) wouldn't be so bad. eek i was wrong! I ran the sprints at 8:00min/mi (i know but for me its fast!--this is a marathon remember?) and the rest times i ran at almost 11:00min/mi. Including the warm up and cool down it was 4.7 miles.
Not going to lie.. i was happy when it was all over! Small goals for me today, as it was a swim meet day, and usually i struggle to get to the gym on the days i have swim meets--but i made it! I felt like i could get it done no prob! These runs are my favorite day of working out because it goes by pretty fast, and you're always changing speeds etc. If i had to pick intervals vs. running 8 miles tempo on the treadmill (ugh this Wednesday) i will definitely take the intervals!
I was having major hunger issues today! No matter what i had to eat i was still so hungry--absolutely incapable of being un-hungry at any point today! Never a good feeling. And when this happens, you tell yourself, "Oh, i'm training so hard i must need to eat to keep my energy." or "I just ran so many miles i can eat this or that." and that my friends--is how you get 'Train Gain'. I feel like i fight this every time i'm training for a big race. Today i tried really hard and was pretty successful at not giving into these pangs of hunger, but i don't know if i can maintain such willpower.
Today's thought:
If anyone has suffered from similar situations where you don't lose, but stay the same or even actually gain weight while running/training, how do you fight the urge to eat and eat... and eat? I need help!! :-)
